Cheng Li advises both local and international clients on U.S. legal matters, with a focus on lending and finance, corporate formation, regulatory compliance, and cross-border transactions. With a strong foundation in both law and financial services, Cheng delivers pragmatic, business-oriented legal solutions that help companies navigate complex U.S. regulatory frameworks and transactional challenges with confidence.

Cheng’s diverse legal background and global perspective make him a valuable advisor for businesses seeking to enter or expand within the U.S. market. Whether structuring a commercial loan, launching operations abroad, or managing compliance across jurisdictions, Cheng provides strategic and efficient legal guidance aligned with his clients’ business objectives.

Before founding Nexus Bono Legal, Cheng practiced at a leading international law firm, advising clients on a wide range of complex commercial lending and corporate transactions. He also held management roles at major global banks, where he led efforts in anti-money laundering and sanctions policy, as well as managed operational risk across credit card and insurance portfolios. In the consulting sector, he advised global financial institutions on cross-border regulatory compliance, with a focus on sanctions and international financial regulations.

Cheng’s legal experience spans a variety of institutional settings, including the legal department of a U.S.-based international bank, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and the Colorado State Attorney General’s Office, where he was involved in matters related to utility regulation and professional licensing. These experiences enhanced his understanding of public-sector legal processes and strengthened his ability to advise on regulatory risk from both legal and operational perspectives.

Cheng regularly works with Chinese businesses entering the U.S. and Mexican markets, particularly within the USMCA framework. His ability to integrate legal, regulatory, and commercial insights, combined with his bilingual fluency in English and Chinese, makes him a trusted partner for companies growing their international presence.
